Ghost Race — Terms and Privacy
Last updated: 25/10/2026
Ghost Race is made to race the ghosts of your own runs. Your runs stay on your iPhone, Apple Watch and in Apple Health; only what you choose to share with friends goes to Ghost Race's server.
Community rules
These apply to anything other people see: your name, cheers, live race and route names, and anything you share.
- Be kind. No hate, harassment, threats, sexual content or swearing at people — there is zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users.
- Don't pretend to be someone else.
- Press and hold anyone's name, ghost, run or cheer to report or block them. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours.
- Content that breaks these rules is removed, and the account that posted it is closed.
- Names and messages are checked for offensive words before they're shared.
By using Friends you agree to these rules and to Apple's standard licence terms for apps (the Licensed Application End User License Agreement).
What the app uses
- Apple Health — your running workouts (distance, time, heart rate, calories, routes) to build ghosts, personal bests and stats; each race is saved back to Health.
- Location — while you race outdoors with just your iPhone, to measure distance and record the route.
- Motion — step counting to measure treadmill runs with just your iPhone.
- Bluetooth — to read heart rate from a chest strap or a watch that broadcasts it.
- Notifications — reminders you turn on, and notifications from friends (requests, live race invites, friends' runs).
Your account
The first time you use anything with friends, Ghost Race makes an account on its server (hosted by Supabase) for your phone — no email or password. If you sign in with Apple, Apple gives Ghost Race a private identifier for you; Ghost Race doesn't ask Apple for your name or email.
What's shared, and with whom
- Your profile — the name you choose and your friend code. Your friends (and people with a pending friend request) see your name.
- Shared ghosts and routes — your name, the run's distance and times (not where you ran), or the route's line and name. Visible to everyone, all your friends, or one friend, as you choose.
- Live races — your name and distance during the race, seen by the others in it.
- Following your run — if you turn on Let friends follow: your distance, time, pace and place while you run (never your location), seen by the friends you choose; and the cheers they send.
- Weekly leaderboard — your name, races, km and challenges done this week.
- Backups — if you sign in with Apple: your races (including their distance, times and heart rate), and friends' ghosts and routes you've added, so you can get them back on a new phone. Only you can see them.
- Notification tokens — so friends' notifications reach your phone.
- Reports and blocks — what you report and who you block, to keep Ghost Race friendly.
There's no advertising, tracking or analytics, and nothing is sold.
Purchases
Subscriptions and purchases are handled by Apple and belong to your Apple ID. Ghost Race never sees your payment details.
Deleting your data
Settings › Account › Delete account removes your account and everything on Ghost Race's server straight away — profile, friends, everything you shared, live races, backups, reports you made and blocks. Races on your iPhone stay until you delete the app; races saved to Apple Health stay until you delete them in the Health app.
